BEFORE YOUR COURSE

A food safety supervisor will add an onsite level of protection for day-to-day food safety, as they have the experience and expertise relevant to the licensable food business and are able to supervise and give directions about food safety to persons in the food business.

Additionally, the presence of a food safety supervisor at the food business is important for being contactable by both local government and persons who handle food in the food business.

By visiting our website www.foodsafety.edu.au you can view all the details of the courses we provide.

The NSW Food Authority have 3 new topics that have become part of the Food Safety Supervisor certification. This includes training in three key focus areas – cleaning and sanitising, safe egg handling and allergen management.

The NSW Food Authority also has a requirement for a certificate to be issued in the New South Wales Food Authority format. As an approved provider we are supplied with 'blank' certificates which are completed with student details and recorded by the NSW Food Authority.

The Food Safety Supervisor certificate is issued by 'an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO)' in addition to the Statement of Attainment after successful completion of the training requirements.

A FSS certificate states that the person it is issued to is qualified to be a Food Safety Supervisor. We, the RTO will issue the Food Safety Supervisor certificates and cannot charge more than $30 for it, as approved by the NSW Food Authority. The FSS certificate is valid for five years from the date of issue.

It is a legal requirement that all businesses (even those who do not need to notify their FSS) keep a copy of their FSS certificate on the premises and produce it for inspection on request by an authorised officer.

For more information go to the NSW Food Authority website www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au.

Please note. There is an additional cost of $30.00 (NSW Food Authority fee) payable for the NSW Food Authority certificate.

Unfortunately are unable to recommend a specific business where you can have the Workplace Observation forms witnessed.

We suggest contacting sporting clubs, pubs, restaurants, cafes, bakeries, etc. Many charity organizations also offer fully operational kitchens. We would also recommend contacting a place of previous employment within the hospitality industry if that option is available to you.

Food Safety Australia understands that there can be some frustration for learners, at this time, due to the assessment requirements to be observed in a workplace undertaking certain tasks, relevant to your unit of study.

Unfortunately, the requirement for workplace organisation is not negotiable by Food Safety Australia, as it is a requirement all Registered Training Organisations to obtain Performance Evidence (evidence collected by or on behalf of the learner) that demonstrates competency undertaking the skills associated with the unit of study.

The skills that need to be demonstrated are contained within the nationally recognised statement of attainment and are also found (using less technical language) in the Workplace Observation  report that is requested of all our learners.

Obviously a face to face delivery in a simulated workplace would overcome this issue, but as you will be aware lockdown provisions largely extend into face to face delivery postponements and suspensions also.

Option 1

Food Safety Australia have carefully reviewed the accredited requirements and are able to make the following adjustment;

  1. Learners may approach previous workplaces and obtain Workplace Observation report that pre-dates the training enrolment by up to 12 months.

  1. Your observer will need to meet the requirements of the Workplace Observer and MUST be informed that they will be contacted by Food Safety Australia to verify the information provided.

Option 2

Should any learner to wait until their lockdown is over to complete this task, Food Safety Australia will extend your enrolment post, at no cost.

Food Safety Australia apologise for any inconvenience, however the authenticity of any successful completion by your learners is paramount, both for you and also our other students and associated industry employers.

AFTER YOUR COURSE

Once you have achieved 100% for all quizzes and submitted any required practical assessments, please allow up to 2 business days for processing. Please Note: Any unclaimed certificates that have been returned to us by Australia Post are available to be re-sent to you, however a processing fee of $27.50 inc.GST will apply.
