Food Safety Supervisor’s in NSW

The NSW Food Authority has a requirement for a certificate to be issued in the New South Wales Food Authority format.

Each appointed Food Safety Supervisor needs to be trained in specific nationally recognised units of competency as determined by the Food Authority, as well as the Food Authority’s own 4 key focus areas:

 

  1. Safe egg handling
  2. Allergen management
  3. Cleaning and sanitising practices
  4. Food Act offences

The Food Safety Supervisor certificate is issued by ‘an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO)’ in addition to the Statement of Attainment after successful completion of the training requirements.

The Food Safety Supervisor certificate is valid for five years from the date of issue.

UNITS OF COMPETENCY

The current national units of competency accepted for the NSW FSS certificate are:

  • Two hospitality units:
    • SITXFSA005 – Use hygiene practices for food safety
    • SITXFSA006 – Participate in safe food handling practices OR
  • One retail unit:
    • SIRRFSA001 – Handle food safely in a retail environment.
NB. Previous units of competency remain valid up to the expiry date on the FSS certificate.

For Business Owners

If you are the owner of a business handling food, you will have obligations to meet the standards of the Australian Food Safety Code.

If you are the owner of a food business in NSW, the NSW Food Authority has a requirement for a certificate to be issued in the NSW Food Authority format. Food Safety Australia is an approved training organisation by the NSW Food Authority and will issue the NSW Food Authority Food Safety Supervisor certificate upon successful completion of the training requirements.

The summary of costs are as follows:

  • Food Safety Supervisor course online: $159.00  
    *You will receive a Statement of Attainment upon successful completion
  • Issue NSW Food Authority certificate: $30.00 
    *This is what the NSW Food Authority charge us
  • Postage and handling charges: $10.00 
    *You will receive your certificate within 5-10 working days upon successful completion

Total Cost of this course for NSW residents: $199.00
